Cocoon
Yarn (2025)
Whenever one is going through a rough patch, the mind takes charge and creates a safe space that does not physically exist. One that wraps around you like a soft tissue and carries all of your weight. A feeling that the artist imagines can only be compared to that of being inside the womb. Each event that shapes you, adds a layer of protection to this fantasious place, which consequently strengthens over time. Polak took refuge in a place that looks most like this one for a great period of her life, whenever she stepped into this portal, a sense of disconnection would occur where she disappeared from this reality.

Opportunists
Acrylic on canvas, beads (2024)
Opportunism is defined as a self-serving and self-centered approach to situations while disregarding what others feel. This piece reflects the artist's experience with degrading commentary during middle and high school . Polak's degenerative back condition made her stand out against her peers as she couldn’t execute certain activities that others participated in on a day to day basis. People took this as an opportunity to induce insecurity and exclusion. Overtime Polak's condition got progressively worse along with the alienation from society, hence the figure’s posture. Its body language may indicate that the subject’s legs do not work and is dragging itself across the surface which is a direct reference to her personal experience.

Mystique
Paper clay (2024)
A figure inspired on "alebrijes", a mexican art form where creatures are morphed together to create spiritual animals. This represents the beauty and power of femininity, through the morphology of a deer and a human figure. The closed off body language and the direction of the eyesight act as self defense against society and its violence against women. By giving off an innocent and powerless appearance, the figure depicts how women tend to hide their strengths through their physique. As a woman from a misogynistic society this piece reflects my personal experience of dealing with such a community.

Felting wool & Glass (2023)
A felting sculpture that was created to reflect a moment of disintegration both physically and emotionally that represents the sustained and prolonged pain. The tissue constructed with the felt simulates both bones and growing bacteria, which provoke an image of disease and decomposition. Even with these negative effects there is beauty to this unseen process, as it happens constantly within nature as part of the decay of life itself.

Home Sweet Home
Mixed Media (2023)
Home Sweet Home is an installation consisting of a room built entirely from scratch which is inspired by the visual and conceptual beauty of internal tissues, organs and cavities.
This piece made use of a space found comforting for most, such as a bedroom, and was constructed with materials that were manipulated to look like the inside of a body by using extremely textural materials such as spray foam alongside glossy finishes to add moisture and depth. The conceptual contrast takes away the element of comfort associated with a generic interior.
By making it a completely enclosed space, the audience adapts and learns to appreciate the atypical beauty of a human's biological insides.

Monument of War
Plaster, Burlap, Foam (2023)
A plaster sculpture that alludes to the glorification of a victory in war through the use of architectural pieces, while disregarding the loss of life and inhumane nature of a combat.
This sculpture was constructed with raw looking materials such as burlap and plaster to appear as if it was enhanced with the scraps of a battlefield. The different red hues make reference to the various phases of a bloodshed while encasing the souls of the victims.

I Dare You To Look
Acrylic on canvas (2022)
A painting that challenges us to see the grotesque through a self-portrait with a penetrating stare that projects a strong feeling of desperation and pain that is hidden under the surface. This painting that reflects the intense physical feeling of a degenerative condition and projects what can be seen if the skin of a human being is taken away.
